13 See, my servant will act wisely;
Ā Ā Ā Ā he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted.
14Ā Just as there were many who were appalled at him ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human being
Ā Ā Ā Ā and his form marred beyond human likenessĀ ā
15Ā so he will sprinkle many nations,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and kings will shut their mouths because of him.
For what they were not told, they will see,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and what they have not heard, they will understand.
53Ā Who has believed our message
Ā Ā Ā Ā and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
2Ā He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
Ā Ā Ā Ā nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
3Ā He was despised and rejected by mankind,
Ā Ā Ā Ā a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
Like one from whom people hide their faces
Ā Ā Ā Ā he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.
4Ā Surely he took up our pain
Ā Ā Ā Ā and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God,
Ā Ā Ā Ā stricken by him, and afflicted.
5Ā But he was pierced for our transgressions,
Ā Ā Ā Ā he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and by his wounds we are healed.
6Ā We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
Ā Ā Ā Ā each of us has turned to our own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
Ā Ā Ā Ā the iniquity of us all.
7Ā He was oppressed and afflicted,
Ā Ā Ā Ā yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
Ā Ā Ā Ā so he did not open his mouth.
8Ā By oppression and judgment he was taken away.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Yet who of his generation protested?
For he was cut off from the land of the living;
Ā Ā Ā Ā for the transgression of my people he was punished.
9Ā He was assigned a grave with the wicked,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and with the rich in his death,
though he had done no violence,
Ā Ā Ā Ā nor was any deceit in his mouth.
10Ā Yet it was the Lordās will to crush him and cause him to suffer,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin,
he will see his offspring and prolong his days,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand.
11Ā After he has suffered,
Ā Ā Ā Ā he will see the light of life and be satisfied;
by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and he will bear their iniquities.
12Ā Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and he will divide the spoils with the strong,
because he poured out his life unto death,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and was numbered with the transgressors.
For he bore the sin of many,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and made intercession for the transgressors.
1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of GodĀ ā 2Ā the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures 3Ā regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, 4Ā and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. 5Ā Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his nameās sake. 6Ā And you also are among those Gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.
7Ā To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be his holy people:
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
