1Ā Ā This is what the Lord says:
āWhere is your motherās certificate of divorce
Ā Ā Ā Ā with which I sent her away?
Or to which of my creditors
Ā Ā Ā Ā did I sell you?
Because of your sins you were sold;
Ā Ā Ā Ā because of your transgressions your mother was sent away.
2Ā When I came, why was there no one?
Ā Ā Ā Ā When I called, why was there no one to answer?
Was my arm too short to deliver you?
Ā Ā Ā Ā Do I lack the strength to rescue you?
By a mere rebuke I dry up the sea,
Ā Ā Ā Ā I turn rivers into a desert;
their fish rot for lack of water
Ā Ā Ā Ā and die of thirst.
3Ā I clothe the heavens with darkness
Ā Ā Ā Ā and make sackcloth its covering.ā
4Ā The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue,
Ā Ā Ā Ā to know the word that sustains the weary.
He wakens me morning by morning,
Ā Ā Ā Ā wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.
5Ā The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears;
Ā Ā Ā Ā I have not been rebellious,
Ā Ā Ā Ā I have not turned away.
6Ā I offered my back to those who beat me,
Ā Ā Ā Ā my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard;
I did not hide my face
Ā Ā Ā Ā from mocking and spitting.
7Ā Because the Sovereign Lord helps me,
Ā Ā Ā Ā I will not be disgraced.
Therefore have I set my face like flint,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and I know I will not be put to shame.
8Ā He who vindicates me is near.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Who then will bring charges against me?
Ā Ā Ā Ā Let us face each other!
Who is my accuser?
Ā Ā Ā Ā Let him confront me!
9Ā It is the Sovereign Lord who helps me.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Who will condemn me?
They will all wear out like a garment;
Ā Ā Ā Ā the moths will eat them up.
10Ā Who among you fears the Lord
Ā Ā Ā Ā and obeys the word of his servant?
Let the one who walks in the dark,
Ā Ā Ā Ā who has no light,
trust in the name of the Lord
Ā Ā Ā Ā and rely on their God.
11Ā But now, all you who light fires
Ā Ā Ā Ā and provide yourselves with flaming torches,
go, walk in the light of your fires
Ā Ā Ā Ā and of the torches you have set ablaze.
This is what you shall receive from my hand:
Ā Ā Ā Ā you will lie down in torment.
35Ā Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and illness. 36Ā When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37Ā Then he said to his disciples, āThe harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38Ā Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.ā
1Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and illness.
2Ā These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; 3Ā Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 4Ā Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
