1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
Ā Ā Ā Ā the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
2Ā Day after day they pour forth speech;
Ā Ā Ā Ā night after night they reveal knowledge.
3Ā They have no speech, they use no words;
Ā Ā Ā Ā no sound is heard from them.
4Ā Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
Ā Ā Ā Ā their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.
5Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
Ā Ā Ā Ā like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
6Ā It rises at one end of the heavens
Ā Ā Ā Ā and makes its circuit to the other;
Ā Ā Ā Ā nothing is deprived of its warmth.
7Ā The law of the Lord is perfect,
Ā Ā Ā Ā refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
Ā Ā Ā Ā making wise the simple.
8Ā The precepts of the Lord are right,
Ā Ā Ā Ā giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
Ā Ā Ā Ā giving light to the eyes.
9Ā The fear of the Lord is pure,
Ā Ā Ā Ā enduring for ever.
The decrees of the Lord are firm,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and all of them are righteous.
10Ā They are more precious than gold,
Ā Ā Ā Ā than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
Ā Ā Ā Ā than honey from the honeycomb.
11Ā By them your servant is warned;
Ā Ā Ā Ā in keeping them there is great reward.
12Ā But who can discern their own errors?
Ā Ā Ā Ā Forgive my hidden faults.
13Ā Keep your servant also from wilful sins;
Ā Ā Ā Ā may they not rule over me.
Then I will be blameless,
Ā Ā Ā Ā innocent of great transgression.
14Ā May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
Ā Ā Ā Ā be pleasing in your sight,
Ā Ā Ā Ā Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
13Ā āEnter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14Ā But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
15Ā āWatch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheepās clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16Ā By their fruit you will recognise them. Do people pick grapes from thorn-bushes, or figs from thistles? 17Ā Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18Ā A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19Ā Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Ā Thus, by their fruit you will recognise them.
21Ā āNot everyone who says to me, āLord, Lord,ā will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Ā Many will say to me on that day, āLord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?ā 23Ā Then I will tell them plainly, āI never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!ā
24Ā āTherefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25Ā The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26Ā But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27Ā The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.ā
28Ā When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29Ā because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
